Microsoft Flight 2012 Game Review: Microsoft Flight is an aviation game. It was developed by Microsoft Studios, the game was created as a successor to the discontinued Microsoft Flight Simulator series. The game offers free-to-play; charging the players for downloading extra content, scenery or aircraft. Unlike the enthusiast centric Microsoft Flight Simulator video games, Microsoft Flight focused more on the mass appeal of flight & aimed to engage a much wider audience. Microsoft ceased development of the game permanently to re-align its long term goals & development plans in July, 2012, the core game, which includes the Big Island of Hawaii scenery area and the Icon A5 aircraft, remains free to download. It can be expanded with additional downloadable content from the integrated Games For Windows Marketplace on Steam website or Xbox-Live. Microsoft Flight features new scenery, terrain, and aircraft, and a revamped weather engine, new gameplay elements for players of all skill levels. The new weather engine renders more realistic weather effects and clouds. The weather also includes fog that blends well with the surrounding terrain, which was released by Microsoft as seen in the previous flight simulator series. The most noticeable graphical improvements are the newer shader models & the use of new DirectX versions as seen in the screenshots. Part of the improvement is self shadowing and more realistic lighting on aircraft, as well as the ability for terrain & scenery objects to cast shadows onto other terrains and objects. The aircraft visual models are much upgraded or improved over those of the previous flight simulator releases. Flight also features a new missions system.
