Cities XL Game Review: Cities XL is a city building computer game. It was developed by Monte Cristo that having a prior development experience in City Life. The game was originally scheduled for release in the 1st quarter of the year 2009, but was eventually released on 8th of October, 2009. The game allows the players to play online & interact with others on massive persistent planet. They have to work together by trading resources or building blueprints to satisfy the needs of city inhabitants. On 8th of March, 2010, the online service was closed & the game became single player only. In the month of June, 2010 Focus Home Interactive acquired the franchise & had released Cities XL 2011 on 14th of October, 2010. The latest installment named Cities XL 2012 was announced in the month of July, 2011 and had released on 20th of October, 2011.
Cities XL GamePlay: Cities XL allows the players an option to play on a persistent online virtual community which is known as a planet that required a monthly subscription fee. As a planet member, players are able to build their cities in a virtual world populated by other subscribers, trade resources like electricity with other players, work together in order to create structures such as the Eiffel Tower, & visit other cities as an avatar or host events. On 27th of January, 2010, due to a low subscription rate, Monte Cristo announced that they would be closing the multiplayer online service and on 8th of March, 2010 they did so. A patch was released on the same day, which allows the players to use buses in single-player campaign, as they had previously only been available in multiplayer mode. The game offers the designation of 3 types of building lots which includes residential, industrial and commercial, each have a different density. Residential lots are distinguished by 4 social classes. These classes are executives, skilled workers, unskilled workers, and elites. Before designating building lots, players must select which class of residents they want to live in. The social class chosen for a lot will not be modified by the simulation. Players have to zone an area of the map in order to create building lots. The game allows players to create a road network with a variety of road types. Roads can be drawn at many different angles and curvatures. Tunnels and Bridges are also part of the simulator. Other transport options that are included in the game were ferries, trains, and subways.
