The game also provides the player a more developed story-line in which the player is forced to overcome an unfortunate event, for example; being betrayed & left for dead, which serves as motivation for the player to advance up the criminal ladder & ultimately leads to the triumph of the character by the end of the story-line The Grand Theft Auto Punjab belongs to a genre of free roaming video games called sandbox games, & grants a large amount of freedom to the player. The traditional action games are structured as a single track series of levels with linear game-play but in in the game, the player can determine the missions that he wants to undertake, & his relationships with various characters are changed based on these choices. The game is influenced by the earlier game Turbo Esprit the cities of the games can be roamed freely at any point in the game, & are examples of open world video game environments which offer accessible buildings with minor missions in addition to the main story-line In the game, there are exceptions: overarching plot, missions follow a linear, & some city areas must be unlocked over the course of the game.
