The game has been published by Gathering of Developers in the month of April 2001. The player is given a role of El Presidente in the game. El Presidente is the ruler in the Caribbean during the era of Cold War from the 1950s onward.The Tropico represents banana republics, using a great deal of humor while still referencing such topics as electoral fraud, totalitarianism, and the intervention of powerful companies, United Fruit is implied and the Cold War superpowers the United States and Soviet Union.Tropico features Latin styled music, which was performed by Daniel Indart. Tropico has won the Original Music Composition category in the year 2002 by Interactive Achievement Awards.Tropico has many expansion packs and a number of new editions. It includes Tropico: Paradise Island, with a combined copy of the Original and Paradise Island which is entitled Tropico: Mucho Macho Edition. This was released on 27th of June, 2002. Tropico 2: Pirate Cove has been released on 8th April, 2003. The 3rd game in the series named Tropico 3, has been released in the autumn of the year 2009 and Tropico 4 was released on 26th of August, 2011.

Tropico GamePlay: The main objective of Tropico is to stay in power. If the populace of an island disapprove of the player's action, they will vote their leader out of office. El Presidente's Individual factions and powers can be ended or disrupt. Rebels are able to defeat the army and Storm the Presidential palace. A successful leader has to either make wider political world, meet needs of the populace, the political factions or establish and Police a totalitarian military dictatorship and also watch the army carefully. The player is able to customize the map of the island. He can also adjust its size. Many aspects of gameplay can be customized to make Tropico easier or more difficult. The player can issue a number of governmental edicts. Edicts are helpful to achieve various game effects.
